Don’t You Know Anyone Famous?

Recently, a reader told me he was watching the morning news and an actor in a popular TV series was asked what she was doing to keep busy during the Covid-based shutdown of filming. She responded that she was reading a lot of fiction, something she rarely had the time to do. The actor told the interviewer what books she had read. My reader related that, sadly, the actor did not mention any of my books. WHAT? HOW IS THAT POSSIBLE? (Just kidding.) This loyal reader suggested that I should have famous people read my books.

“Don’t you know anyone famous? A national or international celebrity?” he asked.

“No,” I responded. “I don’t know anyone famous . . . except for Riley Barrington. She’s an international celebrity.”

“Riley doesn’t count, Alison,” he said. “ She’s a character in your latest book.”

“Oh, yeah, I forgot. Darn. Then I don’t know anyone famous.”

“Well, you need to get to know famous people, like Reese Witherspoon! She has a book club. So does Sarah Jessica Parker. Then you can have the celebrities talk about your books. You should do that,” he advised.

“Okay, sure. No problem. Become BFFs with famous people. I can do that. Thanks.”
