Who is Lance? Cliff Notes, Please!

A few days ago, I was having dinner with my friend Nancy, who is currently reading my latest book, Diary of the Confederates’ Physician. As I was sipping a glass of Tempranillo, she said, “And what about Lance? He surprised me.”

“Who?” I asked.

“Lance,” she said.

“Who’s Lance?” I asked.

“The teenager in your book. Isn’t that his name?” she asked.

“Is it?” I must have looked ridiculously confused because she started laughing.

“I’m sure that’s his name, Alison. You don’t remember your own characters’ names?” (Note: For the record, she’s still laughing.)

“Ohhhh, Lance. I thought you said Blanche,” I said, trying to bluff my way out of this serious author blunder. ”Of course, I remember Lance. I created him. Yes indeed, interesting character that Lance.”

Needless to say, she wasn’t buying it. Next time we have dinner, I’m going to bring “Cliff Notes” of my novels with me. That should work, right?😊
